Cannabis in Ancient Civilizations

Cannabis. It is a plant. It is not a drug. It heals. If there is anything that I want you to take away from today's blog is this. Cannabis. It is a plant. It is not a drug. It heals

I recently wrote a blog on cannabis and why it should be legalized federally. I briefly touched on the fact that in the early 20th century and before, cannabis was used medicinally throughout society. In today's blog I want to look at how Ancient civilizations used cannabis. Cannabis. It is a plant. It is not a drug. It heals.

Archeologists have found cannabis or hemp fibers in artifacts from over 10,000 years ago. These were used to make rope and fabrics and helped our ancestors to be able to build tools, shelter and clothing. Cannabis. It is a plant. It is not a drug. It heals.

The first records of the medicinal use of cannabis first show up before the common Era in China, Egypt, Greece and later in the Roman Empire. Cannabis is one of humanity's oldest cultivated crops. Cannabis is a plant. It is not a drug. It heals.

From China, coastal farmers brought the plant to Korea. Then the Scythians, a nomadic Indo -European group , brought the plant to the Middle East,Southeastern Russia and the Ukraine. Germanic tribes then brought the plant to Germany and in the 5th century on to England. Over the next several centuries the plant would spread through Africa, then South America and eventually into North America. Cannabis is a plant. It is not a drug. It heals.

Cannabis was used for many things throughout Ancient Civilizations. The Vikings and medieval Germans used the plant to help relieve pain at childbirth and also with tooth pain. The Chinese people believed it would bring about spiritual enlightenment and would give cannabis as a gift to the God's during spiritual rituals. The Egyptians used it in rituals for healing and fertility. The Greeks would use cannabis recreationally and soaked the leaves in wine to drink. Romans would go the edible route mixing the leaves with flowers, spices and honey. Cannabis. It is a plant. It is not a drug. It heals.

Medicinally, the Chinese used cannabis to help with blood clots, tapeworms, constipation and hair loss. In Egypt it was used to treat hemorrhoids and sore eyes. Ancient India used it for insomnia, headaches, gastrointestinal disorders, and pain. The Greeks used it to treat nose bleeds and get rid of tapeworms. The Medieval Islamic world used it for its diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties. Cannabis. It is a plant. It is not a drug. It heals.

Our Ancient Ancestors utilized the cannabis plant, PLANT not drug, for many various reasons. From recreational, to rituals to medicinal uses, our Ancient Ancestors treated cannabis as any other plant that would aid them to survive in the world. It was not looked at as something evil that was a detriment to their society. It was a gift of the Earth to help them heal and deal with the pressures of the world. Cannabis. It is a plant. It is not a drug. It heals.

If you stop and really look at what cannabis is and how it has been used throughout history you will learn that Cannabis is a plant, not a drug and it heals.

Blessings.
